RAPPAHANNOCK Sheriff Bill Bun tin appeared at last Thursday’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting to present a preliminary request for another full-time deputy. Buntin asked for additional help last year but was turned down by die Supervisors. This year’s plea is in response to a considerably increased work load, said Buntin.

Sometimes, the two full-time road deputies have to work two shifts just to keep up, according to Buntin. He asked that Dick Jenkins be made a road deputy instead of a corrections officer and that this position be filled with a new jailer.

“All of these things require money but they’re needed in order to operate efficiently,” said Buntin. In addition to an extra deputy, he requested a full-time secretary instead of the part-time help authorized recently by the Compensation Board. “I need a full-time secretary for a fulltime office,” continued Buntin, to keep the sheriff’s office open to the people and answer the telephone, besides typing and filing duties.
