“I’m keeping rather close check on spending so we meet what the state has said our minimum must be,” said Norton. He explained that this “fair share” is determined through multiplying the total number of children in Rappahannock by a set formula based primarily on real property value. Sales tax revenues are subtracted from the total, and the county must then pay 65 percent of the balance.
The Board gave unanimous authorization for transfer of funds within the school budget and Norton continued with a request for authorization to order the two replacement buses immediately.
