SCHOOL Superintendent 0. A. Norton appeared before the Supervisors to request authorization for "budget adjustments.” This year’s proposed budget was based on projections of needed personnel, said Norton. With a drop in school enrollment, "we found we could reduce the elementary staff by one.”
Title I Federal funds for the reading lab program will also amount to more than expected, said Norton. Money in this category has to be spent on the earmarked program or else returned, he noted. On the other side of the ledger, operational expenses are running higher than anticipated with added fuel costs. "We will not exceed the total budget but we need to make changes in certain categories,” he said.
