THE Mount Marshall was another good contest over the steeply rolling timber course. Timber Topper and Ginger Phar paired up to lead the field of seven by 12 lengths, going head and head over several fences in the first mile.
The others closed in the last half, but Kenneth Embrey’s Timber Topper ridden by Dr. Willie McCormick, hugging the left turn into the second last fence, opened up a commanding lead into the stretch and won by ten lengths over Peter Jay’s Pap’s Shadow. Third was D. M. “Speedy” Smithwick’s Taku, who bowed a tendon, followed by Dr. Frederick’s Ginger Phar, Steve Secor up.
