NORTON told the Board that he would like the county’s census of children ages one through 19 to begin by the last of March. State payments to localities for education are based on the number of children residing in the county so it is important that all citizens cooperate with the enumerators to ensure an accurate count. The Board authorized the payment of 65 cents per name, an increase of 15 cents over the census corfducted three years ago.
The Board also unanimously approved the Five Year Spedial Education plan required by the state. Assistant Superintendent T. A. Fleetwood reported that the plan had first been submitted without a narrative on the list of assurances on January 15. The assurances in essence say that Rappahannock will comply with Virginia law, said Fleetwood.
