Randy Waterman’s Mark of Honor won the Mary D. Slaughter memorial timber race decisively. Jockey Harvey Styer kept him forwardly placed throughout the two and a half miles. Jumping head and head with him at the start were Eddie’s Big Gate and After Glow. Second by ten lengths to Mark of Honor was the local Rappahannock entry of Old Mills Stable’s Breezy Buggy, Pete Aylor riding, followed by Martin Kramer’s Score Sheet, John Coles up, and Mrs. Emmet Simmons’s Eddie’s Big Gate, Scott Gregory in the irons.
