Jennifer Youngman’sDocHebbwas the wire-to-wire winner of the three-quarter mile dash. Second in the close contest among eight starters was J. Arthur Reynold’s Mongo Horse Kimikambo, ridden by Chris Kolb, with Jay Barr on his Pill Mill third. Randall Medd’s Forced Entry, Anthony Prince riding, was fourth.
FOLLOWING the ladies’ event was the open hurdle race with twelve entries, necessitating a split into two divisions with odd numbers going first. Just Idling, Jacee Queen and Clinging were the front runners, later joined by Second Call and Moon Soon. Randy Waterman’s Just Idling, ridden by Harvey Styer, closed rapidly in the last 75 yards to sprint across the finish a length and a , half ahead of Second Call, who was disqualified for not taking the second, last fence. Mrs. Robert V. Clark, Jr.’s Moon Soon Ross Pearce up was therefore placed second; Felix Nuesch’s Jacee Queen ridden by son Patrick was third, and Martin Westmoreland from Midland Hunt Georgia was a close fourth on his Clinging.
In the second division, Mrs. Redmond Toerge’s Money for Jam ridden by John “Casey” Hamilton, stayed off the early pace set by Kiev’s Lass, took charge at the third last of nine fences and was an easy 12-length winner over Known Royal, with Witold Kuncewicz’s homebred daughter of their famous In the Know.
