“How often do you have people in the lock-up?” Latham asked Sheriff Buntin.

An average of 15 per month, Buntin responded, adding that most incarcerations occurred on the weekends.

“What does your jailor do the rest of the week?” Latham inquired.

The Sheriff explained that the rest of the jailor’s time was spent doing road work.

“Then you actually have three deputies,” countered Supervisor H. B. Wood.

“But he’s not supposed to be. He was hired as a correction’s officer,” Buntin responded.

Following a unanimous vote by the supervisors to stand by their original position of approving only a part-time secretary and no additional deputy, Deputy Ronnie Hawkins asked the Board to reconsider their decision.
