Francis Eubanks called the Rappahannock News Office recently with an item that she described as the “biggest oddity” ever pictured in the paper. The calf bom four weeks ago at the Eubanks’ farm on Fodderstack Road certainly qualifies as an oddity but big she isn’t!
Mrs. Eubanks reported that the calf stood only 18 inches high at birth and weighed approximately 20 pounds. “I could pick it up and carry it so I don’t believe it weighed much more than that.”
According to Mrs. Eubanks, she was the only one who immediately noticed the calfs size. Her husband, children and grandchildren were all around the Sunday the calf was bom but saw nothing unusual in the little animal until she pointed out how tiny it was.
Mother cow and baby were first kept in a lot close to the house. Mrs. Eubanks is sure her husband moved the two into a far field with the rest of the herd because of jealousy. She said she spent a
