DIRTY POTS AND PANS: Some kinds of dirt are best cleaned in cold water, not hot. These include eggs, doughs, sauces and puddings.
DIRTY THERMOS BOTTLES: Fill with warm water plus 1 heaping teaspoon baking soda. Let sit overnight and then clean. DRIPPY PITCHER: Rub the tip of the lip of the pitcher with a tiny bit of butter. DULL SCISSORS: Cut a piece of sandpaper into strips. You’ll have sharper scissors. GREASY DISHES, POTS, AND PANS: Hotsoak them with baking soda in the water. Chemically, baking soda plus grease equals soap. GREASY IRONWARE: Pour in lots of salt, and you can easily wipe up grease plus salt with paper towels. RUSTING CAKE TINS: Scour them with a hunk of raw potato dipped in cleaning powder.
