Farmers in Rappahannock County are encouraged to sign up under the 1978 Wheat and Feed Grain SetAside Program. Participation under the 1978 Wheat and Feed Grain Set-Aside Program is stricktly voluntary. However, participation is required in order to be eligible for the program benefits. By participating in the set-aside program you become eligible for: 1. Commodity Loans, 2. Deficiency Payments, 3. Disaster Payments.
The total acres planted in 1978 plus the acres set-aside cannot exceed the farm’s Normal Crop Acreage (NCA). The NCA consists of the total acreage normally devoted to the production of corn, barley, sorghum, rye, oats, soybeans or wheat.
To participate in the setaside program you must agree to set aside from production an acreage equal to 20 per cent of the acreage to be harvested for wheat and 10 per cent of the acreage of corn, barley and grain sorghum.
All producers who certified their 1977 planted crop acreage will receive a notice giving both the Normal Crop Acreage (NCA) and the established yield for the crops on the farm.
