Smoot
Mary Elizabeth Smoot, 71, of Washington died Saturday, March 4, 1978, in Warren Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Thornton Gap Regular Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kirby Shenk. Interment was in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.
A native of Capon Bridge, W. Va., Mrs. Smoot was the daughter of Mrs. Martha Marpel Anderson of Front Royal and the late Morgan Anderson. A member of Thornton Gap Regular Baptist Church, she was the wife of George Godfrey Smoot, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Harry Russell Smoot, George Smoot, Jr., and Charles William Smoot, all of Washington, and Alexander Phillip Smoot of Front Royal; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Virginia Marston of Woodstock and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Jenkins of Sperryville; two brothers, Carson Anderson of Bethesda, Md., and Loring Anderson of Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Gillespie of Front Royal and Mrs. Nellie Bromley of Berryville; and 12 grand
