Rappahannock ranks as the thirteenth safest county in Virginia on the basis of deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, according to the final 1977 traffic crash statistics released by the State Police. There was only one traffic death here last year, indicating that 1.6 persons died for every 100 million vehicle miles traveled.
Safe driving improved significantly compared to the previous year. During 1976, five people died as the result <»( accidents on Rappahannock's highways. The death rate pier 100 million vehicle miles jumpied to 8.8 tor a ranking of 93—two from the bottom out of Virginia’s 95 counties.
