Currently, BOD levels at the lagoon are well within both the temporary and original standards set by the SWCB, according to information presented by Dr. Bloomer at the June School Board meeting. However, the level for suspended solids is almost double the temporary limit and close to the maximum allowed under the lagoon's original discharge permit.
It was the consensus of the Board to follow the advice of Rappahannock's Commonwealth Attorney and maintain that the lagoon system was still operating within the legal limits set by the SWCB when the original discharge permit was issued. The School Board members indicated that they would continue to wait for the SWCB to make the next move.

Rappahannock kindergarten teachers Beth DcBergh and Carolyn Stein received letters of appreciation from the State Supervisor of Kindergarten for their contributions to the Kindergarten Conference held this spring in Roanoke. Noting the many hours of work that the two women gave in preparing and presenting their educational displays, Mrs. Grey Ritchie commended Mrs. DcBergh and Mrs. Stein for making “a real contribution to education in Virginia.”
