The summer schedule of visitor activities at Shenandoah National Park went into et.'^ct on Sunday, June 18 a'cording to Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen. Visitors can choose from 29 kinds of conducted activities and four different evening programs—a total of 121 activities that are offered in the Park each week.
Evening programs are given nightly at Matthews Arm Campground (Mile 22.2). Big Meadows (Milepost 51), and Loft Mountain Campground (Mile 79.5). Evening programs are also scheduled at Skyland (Mile 41.7) and Lewis Mountain Campground (Mile 57.5) on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
Daytime conducted hikes and other activities are available at all of the same localities and range from a one-hour sit-down activity called “Shenandoah Sampler" to a four-hour 'Mountain Tromp" in the Big Meadows, area. Two \pecial programs on the skills and philosophy of backtracking are being offered this summer. They are ‘Wilderness Adventure” at MX) a.m. each Friday at Loft Mountain Campground and 'Blue Ridge Backpacking" at Big Meadows each Saturday at 9:00 a.m. These activities last about four Sours and no reservation is ■ quired.
