At a special meeting held Thursday, May 31, the Rappahannock School Board approved contracts for eight new teachers, reducing the number of vacancies for the 1979-80 year to 11.
According to superintendent William Bloomer, new personnel hired are:
—Michael Connifey, first year graduate of the University of Virginia, for Title I primary reading lab;
—Lynn Hammond, VPI graduate with Masters Degree and three years teaching experience, for primary grades, kindergarten through third;
—Candice Lynn McDaniel, Longwood College graduate with two years teaching experience, for primary grades;
—Susan Wittle, first year graduate from Virignia Commonwealth University, for primary grades;
—Robin Dexter, first year graduate of Bridgewater College, for upper elementary, grades four through seven;
—Scarlett Ann Dywe, graduate of Longwood College with five month teaching experience, for upper elementary grades; v
—Sherry Chrisman, first year graduate from James Madison University, for high school busines education;
—William Scott, graduate of Appalachian State University currently completing a Masters Degree at James Madison University, for high school guidance counselor and social studies teacher.
In addition, Bloomer reported, the board voted unanimously to release fourth grade teacher Sheila Freeman from her contract because of family relocation. The approval of additional personnel leaves vacant nine existing positions and two new positions included in the 1979-80 school budget.
