Whorton
Funeral services for Robert Lee Whorton of Castleton were held Wednesday at Geest Funeral Home Chapel in Culpeper, conducted by the Rev. Edward Jenkins. Burial was in Washington Masonic Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Whorton, 89, a retired farmer, died Monday, June 4, 1979, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital. A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of the late Broadus Whorton and the latte Mattie Peyton. His wife was the late Lula Dodson Whorton. He was a World War 1 veteran.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Violet Whorton of Castleton; a son Robert Stanley Whorton of Castleton; two grandchildren and one great-grandson; and a brother, Walter Whorton of Castleton.
Pallbearers were Richard Wharton, Haywood Whorton, Kinsey Whorton, Clarence Whorton, Gibson Whorton, Charles Cannon, David Norman and Clifford Payne.
Y outh Meeting
The Hopewell Baptist Church Youth Group will meet Thursday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the church in Sperryville. All young people are invited to attend.
