To supplement his minister’s salary, he sought a job teaching in Rappahannock schools. Maurice O’Bannon then a member of the Rappahannock School Board went to see the superintendent on Titchenell’s behalf only to find that a good word wasn’t required. When Titchenell had served as pastor in Warren County, he’d taught at the Flint Hill School. The superintendent remembered him: “Tell him there’s a school waiting for him,” he informed O’Bannon.
For 18 years—all spent in the same room—he taught history and government to RCHS students. Until his retirement last year, Titchenell shared co-honors with Mrs. Jean Moffett for tenure at the high school with the two being the only school
