At the Annual Meeting of the Piedmont Environmental Council on June 2, B. Powell Harrison, Chairman of the Board of PEC, introduced Chaplin B. Barnes as the new President of that organization. Barnes, who has most recently served as the Director of International Activities of the National Audubon Society, will move to the Warrenton-based PEC from his current residence in Wilton, Connecticut.
At the age of 38, Barnes brings a wide and varied experience to the Piedmont organization. He graduated from Yale College and the Yale Law School where he specialized in land use law, and then attended University College of Oxford University where he studied international law. After an initial association with a New York City law firm, he joined the National Audubon Society in 1969 as Administrative Assistant to the President, and assumed his responsibility for international activities in 1973. In carrying out his duties, he has traveled extensively and has been an active participant in a number of important international conferences on the environment: the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (1972);
