2. School Expansion
The capital outlay ball was tossed back and forth between the school board and the county supervisors with neither side any closer to a decision at the end of 1979 on a permanent solution to overcrowding at both the&> elementary school and Rappahannock County High School.
Architects and members of the school board’s capital outlay study committee presented a $1,400,000 proposal in March for expanding facilities at both schools and constructing a new central office and school bus garage.
The school board declined to send its committee’s recommendation on to the supervisors with any. endorsement, choosing instead to merely rank the projects in order of priority with the high school first followed by the elementary school, bus garage and central office.
The supervisors tossed the ball right back with a request that a joint supervisor-school board committee work with the county engineer on a detailed cost analysis and alternatives for building projects. «.
The committee is currently developing the cost breakdown. As a temporary measure, the school board installed three trailers at RCHS to meet the most pressing space needs in the current year.
