9. Comprehensive Plan
Work on the county’s first comprehensive plan stepped up in 1979. John Capelle. executive director for the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission. presented the county planning commissioners with background chapters and a village study before the close of the year.
The planners are to begin formulating sections on future land use early in 1980 and expect to have the completed plan ready for public hearings in each community and subsequent adoption by the supervisors before the state’s June, 1980, deadline.
10. Gas Shortage
Gas stations throughout Rappahannock felt the crunch of decreased supply during the summer and cut back hours of operation while limiting the number of gallons available to individual customers. Following an upward spiral across the nation, charges on the pumps climbed to over $1 a gallon for regular by midNovember.
That was the bad news. The good news was that there was plenty of the expensive gas to go around as most stations resumed normal operating hours and dropped purchase restrictions by early fall.
