Newbill Miller remarked on the lack of bitterness displayed by Herbert Barksdale, an elment rarely found in those that have served as a volunteer and warded the flings and arrows tossed by the public for almost half a century. ^He’s a real Christian,” said Miller, adding that Barksdale inspired the same feelings of admiration in almost everyone he’d met. ’’You wish the hell you could be exactly like him when you get that age," Miller concluded.
