One afternoon he spotted an Appaloosa stallion in a field down the road from his parents' Locust Shade farm. "He called me a few days later and said ‘Mauri. I just bought an Appaloosa stallion!' He wasn't a great horse or anything but he had a nice disposition, he was nice to work around and he taught us a lot of things." Mauri recalled.
This partnership in the horse breeding business, begun with one mare and one stallion, started a few months before their marriage. Seven years later, both are still going strong. £ At -the outset, the couple pored over Appaloosa magazines, talked to breeders and traveled to App shows all over the state. "We pestered people to death, especially Bill. He's more outgoing. He’d introduce himself and ask hundreds of questions. He read up on popular bloodlines, watched what the judges were choosing and asked them afterwards why they'd picked the horses.” Mauri recalled.
