This Weekend

Gov. and Mrs. John Dalton will preside at the opening of Front Royal’s 11th annual Festival of Leaves at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Warren County Court House this Saturday.

Prior to the opening ceremony. Farmers and Merchants Bank will host a reception, open to the public, for Gov. and Mrs. Dalton at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the bank on Main Street.

Highlights of this year’s two-day Festival will include a reenactment of the Battle of Front Royal Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on the grounds of Randolph Macon Academy, an auction at Ivy Lodge at 3 p.m. Saturday, and drawing for ticket-holders’ prizes Sunday at 3 p.m. at Ivy Lodge.

Block tickets for all events are on sale at $3 for adults, $1.50 for students, at the Warren County Chamber of Commerce, Farmers and Merchants Bank, the Bank of Virginia, Peoples Bank, First Federal Savings and Loan Association and at Ivy Lodge.

Other activities include a parade through town following Saturday's opening ceremonies; a Keyette Carnival that includes games, entertainment and babysitting; an art show; dried flower sale; carriage and pony rides; demonstrations by a farrier and craftspeople making apple butter, lace, cakes, candles and soap. Besides the traditional street corner fare, food concessions will offer Brunswick stew, baked goods, jams and jellies.
