Cries of “Where has summer gone?" will echo across Rappahannock next Thursday, August 26, as the county’s two public schools open their doors for the 198283 term. Getting an early start, the elementary school will collect fees and issue books on Tuesday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Book rental fees are $18.00 for Kindergarten through grade 3, and $28 for grades 4 through 7. No new students will be registered on Tuesday, August 24 or on Thursday, August 26, the first day of school, in order to relieve some of the work load on these two extremely busy days.
Parents are urged to bring their children when they come on Tuesday so that they can meet their teachers and learn the location of their classroom. Kindergarten and first grade students will be issued name tags at that time. Parents of lower grade students who are unable to come on Tuesday are asked to pin tags on their children showing the child's name, grade, and bus number, if known. Any parent driving their child to school on the first day of attendance must furnish the bus number to the teacher before leaving the building so that the child can be put on the correct bus at the end of the day. Bus numbers can be secured from the school bus supervisor at the garage.
School will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday August 26. It will end at 3:10 p.m. beginning Friday, August 27. Parents are reminded that no students should be at school before 8:15 a.m. on any school day as no supervision is available before that time.
High School Fees
Rappahannock County High School will begin classes on Thursday.
Persons in grades 8-12 w ho moved into the county during the summer and who have not yet registered are asked to call James Futrell. Guidance Director, at 9878575 for a registration appointment.
