Town Identity
“One other thing is bothering me,” said the Mayor. "1 think that our town is rapidly losing its identity by its proper name. I don't know exactly what to do about this ... it doesn’t really offend me.”
“Oh, yes, it must, or you wouldn’t bring it up,” said Hawkins. “You’re referring to people calling the town ‘Little Washington'. I detest it. I'm always correcting people."
“I don't mind so much when it’s done affectionately." said Miller. “But it’s a commercial thing. I know earlier inhabitants were extremely offended by it.”
“Yes, indeed," said Taylor Updike. “I’ve seen fights over it. And this is true: I was at Skippy’s one day and somebody came by and asked where was the Capitol."
“Let’s all think about it and see what we can come up with in September," said Miller.
