Although sticky, the fourth chukker was the highest scoring of the day. Bignoli erupted with three, including a successful 60-yard foul shot at a defended goal. Remo managed to keep Middleburg on top. however, with yet another long, angled shot, shot. Bignoli took the initial throw-in of the next to last period and set up Greenhalgh for the tying score. Cantacuzene countered by picking the ball out of a melee and putting the Blue back in the lead. Young Vinci Rizzo picked up a slightly wide foul shot of Riemenschneider's and scored to make it 8-6.
Greenhalgh closed the gap to one at the start of the final seven minutes. Bignoli backed him up by taking the next throw-in and carrying it through the goal to make it 8-8. Fast, hard play on both sides yielded no more goals. As both teams are involved in tournaments in the near future, it was decided that the tie should stand.
Bignoli led the scoring with five tallies while Cantacuzene sparked Middleburg with four. John Gulick and Bill Fannon supervisored the action.
Wednesday night, August 18, at 7:00, will see the start of a tournament on Fannon's field in Castleton. The finals of the John Cousins Memorial 4-Goal Tournament will take place Friday at 4:00 on the Phipps Field.
