Upon arrival at the Sheriffs office Jessup read Fincham his miranda rights and had him sign a statement that he understand what his rights were. After this transpired Jessup said he questioned him about the fires and found out that Fincham was the person who reported the March 29 fire. “I knew that he had done them after talking to him,” the investigator said. Jessup reported that he asked Fincham if he had set the fires and Fincham admitted to his involvement. Jessup stated that Fincham confessed because “he knew that 1 knew that he had done it."
After the confession, Jessup said he had Fincham mark on a diagram where he started the fires. Then Jessup went one step further and took Fincham to the sights of the fires, where Fincham stood and pointed to the spot where he started each fire, action that the arson investigator photographed.
With little discussion at the end of all the testimony. Judge Alexander certified the case to the Grand Jury, including the pictures, as evidence.
