Local training is reaching a serious level as county runners make last minute efforts to compete for the greatly-coveted Eva B. Smith Memorial, the trophy presented to the first Rappahannock runners to cross the finish line on April 16.

In addition to this award, trophies will be given to the first three finishers in each age class at the fifth annual Fodderstack Classic beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Flint Hill.

The Fodderstack Classic, offering 10 kilometers of breathtaking spring scemery over the old stagecoach route from Flint Hill to Washington, is staged yearly by the Rappahannock Recreation Association.

Those not-so-serious may also enter. Walkers and novelty entries (such as the baby stroller category of the past two years) are also welcome. For an entry foam, send a self-addressed.
