Thanksgiving— 1985
Unlike the first of the year when we tend to look forward, Thanksgiving should be a time of reflection — a time to look back and remember those things we have done for which we may be thankful.
Unlike much of the world, most of us here have plenty to eat. The bounty that fills our tables today is tremendous. We do this in a spirit of joyous celebration and this is good.
We might remember this meal — this time of giving thanks, when we are asked to help those who are not celebrating. Earlier this year the press covered, not excessively, the starvation in Africa. Although it no longer gets top billing as often as it did, the situation there, while improved somewhat, remains bleak.
When a responsible organization asks for help, please give generously.
Then you may look back and honestly remember something you did for which you may be thankful. You will have helped someone else live.
