Is it the Richmond City Council, the Airport Commissioners, or the Supervisors in the counties surrounding the field, who appoint those Commissioners. Here, when historic figures including Charles A. Lindbergh sought this commemoration of Richard E. Byrd, and our officials in spite of school children being raped and murdered, have found the time to further errode our national pride.
Indeed Richard E. Byrd should be remembered again, with stronger conviction and appreciation of this great American who exceeded nearly everyone of us reading this in his contributions to our country, and future generations.
I feel those officials should reverse their decision and realize that this historic mistake is unpatriotic, vindictive, and will cost the taxpayers what could easily exceed a hundred thousand dollars. By the time we get all the enabling legislation, manpower, trucks, extension ladders, tools and documentation assembled to remove all of the old signs and dispose of them in our costly and limited landfill space, and then have new signs engineered, purchased, invoiced and erected, the impact will be considerable to the taxpayer.
And it all makes about as much sense as the young man who publicly shot the President of the United States of America, on television and destroyed the life of another man press Secretary Brady, and says it was all to impress a girl, and the American Public will powder his bottom, feed and clothe him, and assume his medical and dental payments. Yes siree Bob, That is what our judges and legislators that we voted for, have done to us, and we tolerate it. It’s our fault. Maybe the American public ought to hire a lobbyist to represent them in some common patriotism.
I close in asking when will we forget about Pearl Harbor Day, Honest Abe, Country, Family, and the time tested values and principles this country is rooted in.
In regard to the Late Byrd Field and its official assassins, I can only thank God that the Washington Monument is not in Richmond. Do you suppose that in their wisdom these officials could soon change the name Richmond, to WHICHmond?
