The Virginia House and Senate opted, Feb. 24, to strangle the last breathing proposals to issue general obligation bonds for construction projects throughout the state.

Two conflicting bond packages quickly escalated into a confrontation and deadlock between House and Senate majority leaders last week after the Senate Finance Committee killed a $1.5 billion House-approved bond package.

In retaliation, the House voted down a series of bond proposals totaling more than $613 million introduced by Gov. L. Douglas Wilder and passed by the Senate.
