Last Friday evening I was fortunate to attend the second annual meeting of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Association (RFA) for dinner and dancing, music with the Freestate Ramblers, and fellowship with fellow farming folk and other residents of our county who Waftt to see farming preserved and the rural character and pastoral beauty of Rappahannock maintained in years to come.
Everyone attending was asked to complete a questionnaire dealing with the RFA’s vision of Rappahannock two decades hence in 2012. We were treated next to an excellent talk by Ralph Grossi, president of American Farmland Trust. Afterward Col. Dale Metzinger, a longtime county resident and member of the audience, felt moved to stand and praise the new Rappahannock Farmers’ Association
