To welcome spring, students and friends at Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly held a glorious feast Monday, a Medieval Banquet complete with lords and ladies, kings and queens, knights and their squires, wenches and jesters.
The main hall at WCDS was decorated appropriately for the Middle Ages festivities and games. Nearly everyone dressed in medieval costume, be it flowing velvet robes, tall conical hats with gossamer veils, or a court jester outfit.
After the King and Queen, their court, and the Queen of Love and Beauty were introduced by the Bishop (Headmaster Schantz) and Pamela Lynn, the games and revelries began with gusto. Some of these games were to measure strength; others measured skill. They also were designed to prepare one for one of the ultimate test of both: jousting.
Many decided to test their skill at pushing their opponent off a balance beam with quarter staves. This seemed to be the most popular game of all. Another was the jousting, complete with shields and armor. Or one could try to balance a masher while balancing on a beam.
