If'the existing high school were converted to a middle school, and a new 140,960 square foot high school constructed, total estimated costs rise to nearly $19 million.
Gangel said that other options were briefly considered, including adding onto the elementary school and moving the eighth grade back from the high school. This option was rejected without fully costing it out because the number of classrooms required would be higher and it involved building and renovation at both the high school and elementary school.
The advisory group is now considering different locations for the addition to the high school. “There is no ideal location,” noted Gangel. “Moving the septic system is probably not cost-effective. The baseball field is being considered,” as is the possibility of the county parks and recreation department creating sports fields that could be used by the schools.
