Isn’t it interesting that
those who would deny a family the right to choose a “mobile home” are the same people who would fall all over themselves in order to preserve an old farmhouse — you know, the kind with substandard plumbing and wiring, drafty windows, stairs and doorways that don’t meet code, a rat-infested leaky basement, black snakes in the attic, and a fire-trap unlined chimney. And they would gladly rent that house, in unimproved condition, to a low income family for more than monthly payments on a manufactured home, and then go to church Sunday feeling good about themselves because they have provided “affordable housing” to the unfortunates, preserved history, and protected the “view shed” (a snob term if ever there was one) of our Rappahannock paradise.
America is still the*1 land of liberty. No one has the right to deny his neighbor to choose whatever type of housing he wants to build or place however he wants on his own land.
Many have seized that right in recent decades using the ploy of zoning ordinances and building codes. But just.
