The 35 artists whose works were jury-selected for the “Sense of Place”
Review exhibition now at the Middle Street Gallery are as varied as their origins. Paintings, sculptures, photographs, collages and paper constructions are only some of what this show offers. The exhibits are from as far away as Alaska and California, and include those of familiar gallery members and friends. This mixture gives us an opportunity to compare the work of local artists with their contemporaries from across the nation.
Carla Golembe’s acrylic gouache on wood, “Dance Hall,” a folk art piece of especially vivid blues, pinks, yellows and greens, simply but convincingly conveys the emotions and movements of young people enjoying a romantic evening. I found it deftly done, amusing and touching.
