Postal service nearer agreement
for purchase of land in Amissville
Good news for the folks in Amissville and the
county. The deal to locate a new post office
facility at Amissville looks like its a go.
The postal service is in negotiations with Amissville residents Averill and Kenneth Ring over the sale of two acres on Route 642. A successful outcome would be a victory for all concerned. It may help bring about a greater sense of community in numer-* ous ways. It is also in keeping with the county’s Comprehensive Plan and furthers the “village” concept.
That concept, as well as sections of the comp plan dealing with environmental issues, supports stated goals of local and regional organizations such as the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, Ragged Mountain Resource Center, and Piedmont Environmental Council.
Locating the post office in Amissville may serve to offset some of the potential sprawl that will no doubt develop at Clevenger’s Comer.
