Activities at Castleton
The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company is currently sponsoring bingo every Saturday night and a shooting match every Friday night. The bingo doors open at 6 p.m., early birds start at 6:45 p.m. There will be early birds, treasure chest, instant bingo, jackpot and good food. The shooting match starts at 7 p.m., with great prizes. Rules are no sleeves, no scopes, no barrels over 36 inches and 12 gauge shot guns only. Food will be served.
Beekeepers to meet
The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association will hold its September meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Culpeper Cooperative Extension Service building at the corner of Davis Street and South West Street, Culpeper. From 6:45 until 7:30 there will be a beginning beekeeper session. The regular program will be: A Comparison of Comb Honey Production Methods. For further information call Kevin Lunsford at 439-0743.
John Trott to speak
The Fauquier Outdoor Lab will feature a slide-lecture by local “naturalist wonder,” John Trott on Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The festivities and open house will begin at 6 p.m. Mr. Trott will speak on “The Nature of Birds” which will focus on local birds and wildflowers. There will be refreshments, short nature walks, insect displays and a chance to see pond creatures up-close and personal, both under microscopes and in your hand. The Fauquier Outdoor Lab is primarily a resource for teachers. However, scout troops, homeschoolers and clubs also use the facilities which feature a lake, nature trails, composting demonstration, nest boxes and various habitats.
Old Hollow reunion set
The Old Hollow reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 13 at Thornton Gap Regular Baptist Church near Sperrvville. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. “Bring a covered dish and join us,” said an organizer.
