Harry Jackson Rutherford, 89, of Castleton died Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Oak Springs Nursing Home in Fauquier County.
Mr. Rutherford was born April 29, 1909 in Rappahannock County to the late John S. Rutherford and Alice Cora Yancey Rutherford.
Mr. Rutherford was a farmer and member of Beech Springs Baptist Church for many years.
Mr. Rutherford is survived by his wife of many years Mrs. Esther Cora Dodson Rutherford; two daughters Esther Rebecca Starner of Woodbridge and Betty Lou Bruce of Luray; six sons Bobby Jackson Rutherford, Jackie Thorene Rutherford, Donald Dunn Rutherford and Glenn William Rutherford, all of Rixeyville, Roger Lee Rutherford of Springfield and Joseph Louis Rutherford of Culpeper and one sister Ella May Atkins of Front Royal.
Additional survivors include 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one grandchild, three brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Sept. 4 at Found and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Carl Menefee officiating.
Interment followed in Amissville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mr. Rutherford’s sons.

She was born April 16, 1926 in Virginia, a daughter of the late James and Rosie Lee Jefferies..
She was a homemaker and a member of Amissville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters Margaret Smith of Baton Rouge, La., Pearl Counts and Christine Ryan, both of Rixeyville; two sons
