Mrs. Doris Tolbert Jennings, 102, of Amissville died Sept. 5 at her residence.
Mrs. Jennings was born Sept. 4, 1896 in Fauquier County, a daughter of the late George Meredith and Mary Lawson Tolbert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Jennings.
Mrs. Jennings was the oldest member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Amissville where she served as a Deaconess. She was active in the Missionary Society of the church were she was former treasurer. She was a member of the Amissville Women’s Progressive Club and was the “mother” of that club. She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and Scottish Rite of New York.
She is survived by a sister Lilia Tolbert of Amissville; sister-in-law Mary Tolbert of Washington, D.C.; six nieces Mildred Martin, Alberta Brown, Lilia Pendleton and Mildred Marshall, all of Amissville, Annie Cook of Flint Hill and Mary Sikes of Maryland; six nephews Rev. Ray Jackson of Jeffersonton, Homer Jackson of Amissville, Rev. Horace Jackson Jr. of Remington, George Jackson of Amissville, George Dalton Tolbert III and Richard Tolbert, both of Washington, D.C. and a host of great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Amissville with the Rev. Forrest Freeman officiating. Interment was in Warrenton cemetery.
Memorial ..contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were handled by Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton.
