From Wresting to Resting in Handmade Paper by Nina Moore will be on display at Middle Street Gallery in Washington now through Sept. 27. Ms. Moore will be at the gallery on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 11 a m to 6 p.m.

Karate classes to begin

Shorin-Ryu Okinawan Karate classes will begin Sept. 16 at Ki Theatre in Washington Classes will be held, on Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for juniors and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for adults. Band members, parents to meet

All members of the Rappahannock County Elementary and High School Band and their parents are invited to a social at the skating rink in Culpeper on Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Asparagus Production to be discussed

“Raising Asparagus for Home Garden or Commercial Production” will be the main topic of an educational farm tour open to the public at the farm of Richard and Joyce Abell on Saturday afternoon. Sept. 19. The afternoon will begin with a discussion from 1 to 2 pm. about how to use raised beds and row covers in the vegetable garden. Then, between 2 and 3 p.m. the tour will concentrate on asparagus production, including methods of pest and weed control. Between 3 and 4 p.m. the tour will be devoted to the problems and rewards of small fruits, such as blackberries, raspberries, persimmons, apples and pears. The Abells have a small farm which abides by the Ecological Production Pledge of the Virginia Association for Biological Farming, sponsor of the tour.
