Preparatory Program at ODU’s College of English and Technology was a combination of math, physics and engineering.
Although very modest about his achievements, Payne has given a lot of thought to a career and had wanted to be a math teacher at RCHS. Now, however, he thinks maybe he’ll gear his talents more toward engineering. He is very interested in the planning and study of interstate and intrastate highway systems. He has always had an interest in maps and topography, he said.
Last year he received an academic award for algebra, he has received certificates from Johns Hopkins and this summer received a certificate from the program he attended at ODU. Payne also enjoys working with computers and says he’s looking forward to studying math, specifically geometry, this year.
