Rappahannock County was abuzz Monday afternoon when marked and unmarked vehicles carrying dozens of uniformed state and federal officers surrounded buildings in three locations.

In a press conference the next day, officials from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries announced 25 arrests and the execution of 14 search warrants in connection with poaching and illegal bear trade.

They confirmed that some Rappahannock County residents were under investigation, but declined to release their names until, or if, charges are laid.

Vehicles were spotted before a house south of the Sperryville Cemetery on Route 522 in Sperryville.
