The warblers are a distinctly New World family of birds and their brilliant colors, buzzy, lisping songs and rapid movements make them the most exciting group of birds.
“Warblers are full of all-ofa-sudden,” wrote the great American ornithologist, Frank Chapman. They certainly are. A glimpse of the brilliance of a Black-throated Blue Warbler or Redstart can turn a gray day into gold.
Though the sky was already a flawless blue on the cold morning, when I saw the Myrtle Warbler in the maple tree, it became even bluer and the day brighter by his darting through the twigs of the outer branches of the maple tree.
