Harris Bolling Winfrey of Woodville, well known teacher and educator of Rappahannock County, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1969. He taught in the schools here for 45 years and served as principal of Rappahannock County High School since its consolidation in 1950, until his retirement in 1966. He came to Rappahannock County in 1921 after having taught one year each in Jeffersonton and Amissville. He was principal of Sperryville High School which joined with the Washington High School in 1950 with Mr. Winfrey as principal. The fourth annual Rappahannock Beauty Pageant is scheduled for Friday, April 18 and will be held at Rappahannock County Elementary School according to J.B. Willis, president of the Rappahannock Jaycee Chapter which sponsors the pageant. Gary Deal and Donald Gore are in charge of the 69 pageants in which approximately $400 in prizes is offered. This includes a college scholarship to the winner of the older age group and savings bonds to winners of the other groups. Cadet James M. Cannon, son of the Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cannon of Castleton has been promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant in the Randolph-Macon Academy Cadet Corps.
