Berkeley and later transferred to Mi take, a college in Tokyo where he studied Japanese. He said he continued his studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in clinical psychology. In 1975, he graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in law.
Bennett became a property owner in Washington when he recently purchased a house on Main Street.
After the meeting, Bennett thanked former town attorney Frank Reynolds for his help: “I am deeply grateful to Frank Reynolds for the hours that he spent with me conveying the matters now before council. He is a valuable resource for the town, and I hope we will all call on him as necessary. He’s really gone the extra mile in the transition.” Reynolds gave his resignation during a turbulent November meeting when the council did not appoint Rinehardt Lynch to a vacant seat.
