Robin Kevis has his hands full. ; He has undertaken the renovation of the old Mattie Ball Fletcher house at Main &nd Calvert Streets in Washington — a major project — and his clients are his parents, Charles and Carroll Kevis.
According to Robin, his toother was first attracted to the house by the boxwood archway that graces the back yard.
Peering down that green alley on an unseasonably warm January morning, one can anticipate just how refreshing its shadows will be on a sweltering day this forthcoming August.
Ancient abode
The Mattie Ball Fletcher house was built in the mid1700’s and is a fascinating antiquity. ! The original structure was a; 18 by 28 foot chestnut log cabin, situated on the present home’s north side. This room i^ a treasure that it is to remain unobscured by sheetrock, veneer or marble.
All who see it know that this nest of a room — with its massive stone fireplace, low ceiling, flagstone floors, chestnut log walls and hand-hewn beams — will be the place in the home to share a conversation, sip coffee on a cold winter morning, or find refuge from the heat on a humid summer night.
