He argued that two new vehicles had been purchased for the sheriff’s department for the past three years.
• A joint meeting with the Washington Town Council was confirmed for 7:30p.m. on Feb. 10 at the town hall to discuss four boundary adjustments around the town.
• McCarthy said a bill sponsored by Sen. Kevin Miller permitting the county to charge a 4 percent flat rate on the Meals and Lodging Tax in establishments that do not itemize the two was passed by the state Senate, and was headed for the House.
• A resolution recommended by Del. Jay Katzen (R-31st) that was added to the agenda failed for lack of a unanimous vote.
“The resolution was for voluntary programs to help clean up the Rappahannock River,” McCarthy said.
T^ie vote was 4-to-l, with Massie voting against it.
Executive session
Matters discussed in executive session included the continuing negotiations for acquiring the old Aileen property near Flint Hill. County Attorney Peter Luke and County Administrator John McCarthy were authorized to spend up to $10,000 for further testing required by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
Luke said the DEQ requested the county to have soil, water and air samples collected from under, in and around the building and from a nearby stream.
