The board debated the moral and legal issues at length and then voted to pay $135 to the Five Forks Baptist Church and $153 to the Woodville Baptist Church, which had also applied for a tax reftmd, the amount the churches paid in taxes to the utility companies for the past three years. But on Luke’s advice, it postponed payment for prior years until he researched the matter.
Sharman said the law clearly stated that the 3-year statute of limitations did not apply and the county treasurer would be required to pursue the matter in court. Luke disagreed.
Other business
• A public meeting with the board and a Warren County supervisor to discuss the draft of the boundary proposal between Warren and Rappahannock counties was tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 4 at the Chester Gap Fire Hall.
• Dr. David Gangel informed the board that planning will be completed on Feb. 17 for the high school expansion, and the architects will begin drawing.
• Buck Payne asked the board members to be liaisons with the residents in their districts in the Trash Free Rappahannock program that will run for six weeks, beginning March 1. Funds in the amount of $10,000 will be available to individuals and organizations for picking up roadside trash.
• A vote on whether to approve the Fire and Rescue appropriations was tabled until Feb. 10, in order for the board to have time to review the information presented at the meeting.
